Committee on Government Assurances

(1)    There shall be a Committee on Government Assurances to scrutinize the assurances, promises and undertakings given by Ministers {or parliamentary Secretaries} from time to time on the floor of the Assembly and to report on-

(a)    the extent to which such assurances, promises undertakings etc., have been implemented; and

(b)     where implemented whether such implementation has taken place within the minimum time necessary for the purpose.

(2)    The Committee shall consist of six Members who shall be elected by the Assembly for the duration of the Assembly.

(3)    Any Member who feels that an assurances or promise given to him or to the Assembly or an undertaking made by a Minister 2 {or parliamentary Secretary} has not been implemented within a reasonable time he may, in writing propose that the matter may be referred to the Committee by the Speaker. If the Speaker is satisfied that a reasonable time has elapsed and that the matter should, be gone into by the Committee on Assurance, he may refer the matter to the Committee.

(4)    This rule shall not apply to assurances, promises and undertakings given before the coming into force of these rules.

(5)    The Committee shall only scrutinize the assurances, promises and undertakings given during the term of that Assembly
